Idaho is believed to be one of the most densely populated bear regions, having both Black and Brown Bear varieties, with an estimated bear population of 20,000, and a wide variety of color phases. The American Black Bear can be hunted in both spring and fall in Idaho. Black bears make the perfect prey during the months of April, May and June. With thick coats in prime condition, springtime is the preferred choice of most bear hunters. Idaho in the spring is an exceptional time of year, with roughly 30% of Idaho’s land considered pristine backcountry that comes alive with wildlife. Our spring Black Bear hunts come in 2 packages. For adrenaline junkies, we offer a Spot and Stalk hunt that runs the last 2 weeks of April. The hunt starts by boat on the Salmon River, and once a bear is spotted, this physical adventure continues on foot as we stalk the bear on land.  From May 15th thru June 30^th we offer Over Bait Black Bear hunts in the Selway Zone with a 2 bear limit.  Our hunts have had some of the highest success rates with a solid chance of getting a color phase. Traditionally, Silver Spur’s hunting groups take 40% black and 60% chocolate, cinnamon or blond color phase. Our Bait hunts are some of the most sussessful in the region. The Selway Zone offers reduced tag units, making non-resident tags only $31.75 each, which is perfect for family or group hunts.

Silver Spur Lodge offers a variety of elk hunting trips for you to choose from. Bring the family and choose one that is suitable for every sportsman in your group, from the novice to the seasoned hunter.  We offer 9-day backcountry camp hunts that are accessible by horseback. They come fully equipped with tents that have wood burning stoves, include a dining tent outfitted and designated for cooking and mealtime, as well as a full time cook who will prepare 3 meals for you daily. You will be accompanied by an expert guide who is highly skilled and knowledgeable about the backcountry – he will work hard and employ the best strategies to get the elk you want.

Silver Spur Lodge also offers deluxe drop camps, which are also 9 days long and outfitted the same way, but are unguided. You will have radio contact with the lodge so that when your game is down, Silver Spur will send a packer to pick up your game and transport it back to the meat house or cold storage, depending on the season.
